Position Summary The Business Unit Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing up to 5+ maintenance shops and managing multiple teams of technicians, maintenance supervisors and/or other maintenance managers who are responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet of vehicles up to 91+ trucks (diesel and alternate fuel) machinery that supports approximately 3 post collection facilities and 3 container shops. The manager provides direction at their shop and indirectly through supervision to a group of technicians, implementing and monitoring maintenance policies and procedures to ensure repairs and maintenance on Republic Services' equipment (trucks, containers and other heavy-duty equipment) are performed in compliance with safety, safety, and regulatory standards. Responsibilities Provide direction to on-site technicians and technician supervisors, and leadership to maintenance supervisors or managers, ensuring repairs/maintenance are performed safely, efficiently and promptly; reallocate resources across sites as needed. Oversee planning and scheduling of repair work to increase productivity; manage department overtime; monitor shop performance and efficiency; report to management on performance and implement procedures for improvements. Oversee daily shop huddles, fleet walk-arounds; coach and counsel lead technicians and supervisors on performance; participate in hiring/termination decisions with Human Resources; oversee employee training and performance evaluations. Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program for all shops within geographic responsibility; identify trends in road calls and breakdowns; oversee facility maintenance and control costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory, and outsourcing of repairs. Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure work complies with company safety and regulatory procedures; identify training opportunities and document issues with corrective action as needed. Accountable for scheduled Quality Control Inspections; track issues and resolutions to ensure work complies with safety and regulatory standards. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems of heavy equipment; perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance on site and on road; including engine/chassis, hydraulics and electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, and welding tools. Manage team-related administrative matters including payroll, employee records, maintenance records, data entry, budgeting, and setting departmental goals aligned with leadership targets. Willingness to travel as required. Qualifications Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office. Advanced Root Cause Problem Solving. Effective and professional communication skills. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to ensure efficient use of equipment, personnel, and fiscal resources. High level of analytical skill to develop a range of solutions. Organizational skills and ability to collaborate and encourage employee engagement. Good financial management and planning skills; ability to understand financial terms, budgets, tables and reports; ability to develop realistic, comprehensive plans to optimize resource use. Automotive certifications: ASE T2 Diesel Engine, T Master Certified; T3 Drive, T4 Brake, TS Suspension and Steering. Certified Automotive Fleet Management (CAFM) Financial Systems including CAFM Financial, Risk, Information, Asset Management; CAFM Vehicle; CAFM knowledge is a plus. Fuel management or experience with similar technology. At least 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor for a large fleet or multiple sites requiring OSHA Haz Com; Lock Out Tag Out; and Fire Protection regulations.
