Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant performs essential laboratory support functions, ensuring the accurate handling, processing, and preparation of clinical specimens for diagnostic testing. Working under the guidance of laboratory professionals, this role helps maintain workflow efficiency, supports quality control processes, and upholds safety and compliance standards in a fast-paced lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive, sort, and organize specimens for processing and testing.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Centrifuge specimens , print and apply labels, and record temperature and storage data.
  • Prepare reagents, slides, and media according to standard protocols.
  • Build worklists, aliquot samples , and check for clots or specimen quality issues.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate QA/QC documentation as assigned.
  • Locate and retrieve missing or pending samples from storage systems.
  • Clean and decontaminate work areas according to safety protocols.
  • Conduct radioactive wipe tests , manage gas cylinders, and ensure lab materials are stored properly.
  • Dispose of biohazardous waste in compliance with safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Use laboratory computer systems to log and track samples.
  • Participate in training and competency assessments as required.
  • Follow all PPE and safety requirements to ensure a hazard-free environment.
Required Education & Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Coursework in math and science preferred.
  • Medical assistant training or related laboratory coursework a plus.
Required Experience:
  • No prior laboratory experience required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Familiarity with lab environments or specimen handling preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use data entry systems.
