Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), who has the ability to provide integrated, cost-effective, quality patient care management for high-risk populations across the continuum of care. The CNS is a clinical expert in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of adults and older adults experiencing various health conditions dependent on the specialty. The CNS designs and strategically implements population-based programs to enhance patient and family outcomes. Responsibilities include clinical practice, program design/development, consultation, leadership, education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As an APRN, the CNS utilizes evidence-based practice concepts and national guidelines to positively influence patient care. The CNS functions autonomously and works in collaboration with Medical College of Wisconsin physicians in the department(s) to optimize the care of the specific population being served. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred. Prefer experience with specialty population.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing is required.
TRAINING DESCRIPTION:
Must have completed an accredited APRN specialty certification program (i.e. AGCNS-BC, PMHNP) within 6 months of hire.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Effective leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Effective project management skills are also preferred.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
This position requires: 1) the current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact), 2) Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) must be obtained within 12 months of hire. 3) Specialty certification is required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Medicaid and Medicare (PECOS) enrollment is required.
