Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Fire Investigation experience

  • IAAI Expert Testimony class or deposition/trial experience (or ability to obtain within 1 year)

  • IAAI – Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) required

  • NAFI – Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) required

  • Eligible for licensing as a private investigator

  • Strong skills in analyzing, interpreting, synthesizing, prioritizing, and reporting information

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Commitment to confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive information

  • Ability to drive to job sites within the tri-state area and beyond

  • Ideally located in the Long Island / NYC metro area

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communication skills for presenting opinions and findings

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficient computer and iPad skills

  • Strong time management skills

  • Ability to apply critical thinking techniques to investigations

  • Willingness to travel overnight for cases when required

  • Must conduct all work with honesty, integrity, and ethical standards

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-complexity fire and explosion investigations, including documentation, photography, diagrams, interviews, burn pattern analysis, and evidence collection

  • Apply thorough knowledge of fire scene safety and potential hazards

  • Prepare accurate technical documentation to support findings and testimony

  • Collect, identify, and safeguard all evidence while maintaining chain of custody

  • Apply local, state, and federal statutes to ensure compliance with laws

  • Testify in legal proceedings as a certified technical expert in origin and cause
