Job Description
1.0 PURPOSE
The A/V Project Estimator prepares negotiated or bid proposals. Responsible for working with Sales, Service, and Purchasing to assemble a bill of materials and labor estimate for each pending customer job.
2.0 SCOPE
The A/V Project Estimator will be responsible for reviewing specifications and plans and accurately preparing estimates for materials, labor, and travel. This individual will be responsible for reviewing engineering drawings, site surveys, project scope, and customer requests. Working with the Sales team and Engineering to assist during the engineering and design phases of the project is a fundamental part of this position. Responsible for accurately determining the necessary equipment quantitie4s and labor needed to complete the job according to company and customer expectations.
3.0 JOB DUTIES
• Production of high-quality jobs to bid, respond timely to requests for quotes, and help secure contract jobs that will contribute to the profitability of the company.
• Review specifications, plans, needs analysis, and prepare a bill of materials.
• Evaluate drawings and site surveys.
• Prepare material, travel, and labor cost estimates.
• Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and unit pricing.
• Assists engineers on needs or situations that arise during the engineering process related to equipment or design.
• Establish and develop relationships with clients, vendors, representatives, and manufacturers.
• Responsible for surveying the customer job site to obtain information on the system environment prior to bid finalization.
• Works with customers and engineers to determine system design and layout.
• Accurately develops bill of materials to include appropriate amount of job-related labor to perform the project.
• Works with design and project engineers to develop a comprehensive set of drawings for the project.
• Assists Sales Department in creating sales orders by using company designated sales order forms.
• Responsible for working with Design Engineer to generate comprehensive project descriptions and scopes of work.
• Other duties as required or assigned by management.
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
• The A/V Project Estimator will be accountable to the Engineering Manager. Secondary accountability will be to the other management team members, employees, and customers of the company.
5.0 QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in A/V estimating and/or AutoCAD project management. Experience is a plus.
• Shall possess a two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and related field experience.
• A working knowledge of communications systems is required.
• Design and engineering knowledge of audio, video, interactives, digital media, and control systems.
• Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimal supervision.
• Attention to detail, professional, thorough, and logical approach.
• Must be able to multitask.
• CTS and relevant manufacturer certifications: Extron, AMS, Crestron
• Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and solid customer service skills.

• Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing, and implementing skills, which allows the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
• Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
• Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.
• Must have a valid and current driver’s license.
7.0 TRAVEL
• Occasional travel to customer and vendor site(s) is required.
8.0 PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
• Employee is required to stand, walk, climb, sit, and use hands and fingers.
• Some light lifting of objects is required.
• Reaching, grasping, and carrying activities also required.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
